What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a medical procedure which involves the insertion of fine needles on specific points on the body. While this modality has been a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years, it only gained popularity in the United States in the 1970s. Acupuncture utilizes the body’s self-healing ability to repair damage and restore optimal function.

FAQ

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture is relatively painless when done by a licensed practitioner. Many patients find it very relaxing and sometimes fall asleep during treatment.

How long is an acupuncture session?

A follow up acupuncture session typically about 20 to 30 minutes long. If you’re a new patient, you can expect your first appointment to last 45 to 60 minutes.

What do I need to know for my first acupuncture appointment?

Your first appointment includes an initial consultation which takes about 15 to 20 minutes. We also provide additional time for you to receive your first treatment after consultation.

How should I prepare for my acupuncture treatment?

We recommend that you eat a light meal prior to your treatment. Please also wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing so that the practitioner can access the various acupuncture points on your body.

Is acupuncture covered by my insurance?

Lim Acupuncture Clinic is not contracted with any insurance companies; however, we do provide superbills for those with out-of-network acupuncture benefits. After you submit the superbills, your insurance will reimburse you directly based on your policy coverage. We also accept HSA and FSA payments.
