What is Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture?
Cosmetic acupuncture (also known as facial acupuncture, aesthetic acupuncture, or cosmetic facial acupuncture) is a highly effective anti-aging therapy that naturally boosts collagen production to firm and tone skin. It offers a safe and gentle method to mitigate the effects of daily stress on our facial muscles. It is an effective way to reduce signs of aging without the downtime of injections or risk of surgery, thus making your skin look younger and more importantly, feel healthier.
Long-Term Benefits of Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture:
Reduce fine lines and wrinkles naturally
Increase skin firmness and tightness
Triggers regeneration of new skin cells
Activate flaccid muscles and lift the skin
Naturally boosts collagen and elastin production
Improve blood circulation and lymphatic drainage
Effectively heals or reduces the appearance of scars
Tightens pores and brightens skin
Technology Beyond Your Traditional Acupuncture Clinic
Safe, Positive Side Effects
Integration of Ancient Methods and Modern Science
Here at Lim Acupuncture Clinic, we incorporate traditional acupuncture with NASA-developed technology LED (light emitting diode) facial therapy. We also supplement our cosmetic acupuncture program with facial microcurrent therapy to increase ATP production. ATP, or adenosine triphosphate, is the primary carrier of energy within all living cells.
Our ATP device is programmed to boost cell regeneration and increase collagen, hyaluronic acid, & elastin production. Most importantly, an influx of ATP can help to reduce signs of aging.
Other Applications of Facial Acupuncture
Facial acupuncture is one of the best non-invasive treatments for both acute and chronic cases of Bell’s Palsy. Did you know that our facial acupuncture can also treat conditions such as TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder)? We’ve had great results in treating these conditions.

Acupuncture and TMJ Pain
Most TMJ disorders (temporomandibular joint disorders) are characterized by pain experienced in the jaw joint or the surrounding tissues. Experts believe it can stem from a variety of causes, including jaw injuries, chronic teeth clenching (a condition known as bruxism), arthritis, and other tissue-related diseases. TMJ disorders can cause limited jaw or mouth movements, difficulty chewing, an aching jaw, tender or aching joints, and persistent facial pain.
However, many patients with TMJ disorders report improved chronic pain and facial tension after multiple rounds of professional acupuncture sessions.
How Acupuncture Works to Reduce TMJ Pain:
Treats facial muscle trigger points, allowing for a wider range of jaw movements
Reduces inflammation by increasing the production of cortisol, a natural hormone that helps regulate stress
Reduces enormous amounts of tension often present in the muscles and joints of stressed patients
Treats chronic pain associated with TMJ disorders

Acupuncture and Bell’s Palsy
Bell’s palsy (also known as acute peripheral facial palsy) is a condition that causes complete paralysis on one side of the face. Patients with Bell’s palsy typically experience symptoms such as droopy eyes, increased sensitivity to loud noise, asymmetrical smiles or facial expressions, uncontrollable drooling, and loss of their ability to properly close both eyes.
Facial Acupuncture Reduces Inflammation
Although the condition is still being extensively researched, medical experts believe Bell’s palsy is directly associated with severe inflammation or swelling of the nerves responsible for managing facial muscles. Patients who live with diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, or are pregnant often have a higher risk of developing Bell’s Palsy. Facial acupuncture helps reduce inflammation, which is effective in managing Bell’s Palsy.
How Acupuncture Helps Patients with Bell’s Palsy:
Treats acute and chronic pain associated with Bell’s palsy
Stimulates healthy blood flow and circulation within the body
Increases production of hormones known to be effective at fighting or reducing inflammation
Helps loosen excessive tension within facial muscle tissues
Does cosmetic acupuncture really work?
Cosmetic/facial acupuncture is an exceptional anti-aging treatment for revitalizing aging skin. It targets specific trigger points of your facial muscles, relaxes tense muscles, releases knots, smooths out scars, and rejuvenates cells. Acupuncture needles stimulate collagen production, making them a great treatment for wrinkles and fine lines alike. Besides anti-aging, cosmetic facial acupuncture can treat other chronic conditions such as Bell’s Palsy and TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders.
Is facial acupuncture better than Botox®?
Many professionals consider cosmetic facial acupuncture to be one of the best non-invasive anti-aging treatments and a natural alternative to Botox®. While both treatments are known to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, facial acupuncture offers a more holistic approach. Due to the overall effects of facial acupuncture treatment, a natural anti-aging look can be achieved compared to Botox® injections.
Cosmetic acupuncture vs Botox®
|A period of downtime after injections where the face becomes swollen. Some patients opt to get their treatments on the weekends so they can recover and heal for a few days until the swelling subsides.||Cosmetic/facial acupuncture has no downtime.|
|Due to regulations regarding toxicity levels or side effects, Botox® injections are limited to certain areas of the body.||Facial acupuncture is not limited to certain areas, and treatments can typically be done anywhere around the face.|
|Safety restrictions limit the amount of product that can be injected during a single session.||Facial acupuncture typically targets the entire face and all its muscle groups.|
|Patients must wait at least 3 months between injections.||Multiple cosmetic or facial acupuncture sessions can occur within one week.|
|Pregnant women are not allowed to receive any Botox® injections.||Pregnant women can enjoy the gentle treatments and anti-aging benefits of facial acupuncture.|
|In addition to the swelling, Botox® patients may experience adverse side effects such as pain at the site of injection, flu-like symptoms, persistent headaches, droopy eyelids, uncontrollable drooling, and more unpleasant symptoms.||Our facial acupuncture treatments do not have dangerous side effects and have not been known to cause severe, persistent, or long-lasting negative symptoms.|
Can I get cosmetic acupuncture and botox?
Yes, cosmetic acupuncture can be used in conjunction with Botox to achieve even greater results! Make sure you consult with a professional to ensure you are choosing the best and safest treatment for you.
Is cosmetic acupuncture safe?
Professional facial acupuncture has not usually been known to harbor dangerous side effects for most people. On the other hand, due to their high levels of toxins, Botox® injections are heavily regulated and often come with many limitations.
What is the best age to start cosmetic acupuncture?
Some of our younger patients begin coming in for anti-aging treatment as early as their late 20s or early 30s. However, most patients seeking cosmetic acupuncture for anti-aging tend to be 30 or older. Patients coming in for medical-related purposes tend to be mostly 50 or above. Our services extend to all adults and children above the age of 10. We encourage patients to schedule an initial consultation with Lim Acupuncture Clinic so we can discuss the best solutions for their individual situations.
How long does cosmetic acupuncture last?
We typically offer our 10-session or 20-session packages. However, this can vary depending on the patient’s condition and needs. Some patients experience dramatic improvements after a few weeks of treatments. Others may see a more gradual development over months of sessions and treatment.
Is cosmetic acupuncture covered by insurance?
This depends on the patient’s insurance provider and personal plan. Our clinic will need to verify any insurance benefits provided by the patient and we ask all of our clients to provide us with a minimum of 48 hours for insurance verification before their scheduled appointment. Please keep in mind that not all of our services will be covered by insurance.

Amazing to Work With
“Dr. Lim has been amazing to work with. Entering my 40’s I was looking for alternative treatments for my aging skin. Botox is not for me! After one microneedling session and just getting started with my cosmetic acupuncture plan I am already seeing results. And I also feel so relaxed when I leave. Amazing place!”
“Fung Fung produces unbelievable results. I’ve done acupuncture for a sports injury with her in the past and now I’m doing ‘facial acupuncture’, also know as ‘aesthetic acupuncture’. I’m seeing great results and she pays close attention to the areas of concern with a facial scar that I have had for 9 years. You feel great afterwards. Looking forward to the next 10 sessions I have with Fung Fung. Highly recommended!”
I Would Highly Recommend Her to Anyone
“…For more than [a] year, I have dealt with severe adult acne on my face and body…After seeing her just once a week for a couple months, my acne and overall health drastically improved. I don’t have any body acne any more and only have slight breakouts every now and then…[Fung Fung] is super intuitive in the treatments she provides…I would highly recommend her to anyone.”
