What is Vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is naturally found in foods of animal origin such as eggs, poultry, fish, shellfish, red meat and dairy products. Vitamin B12 is needed to create red blood cells and DNA (the genetic materials in all of our cells). This nutrient also plays an important role in keeping our brain and nerve cells healthy. Signs of vitamin B12 deficiency may include anemia, fatigue, weakness, nerve damage (numbness and tingling in hands and feet), memory loss, and depression.
