Acupuncture and Fertility
FAQ
Can acupuncture really help with fertility?
Dr. Lim has had excellent results in treating root causes of infertility such as PCOS, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and other conditions. Complex cases such as multiple failed IVF treatments or recurrent miscarriages can be addressed effectively with individualized treatment plans.
Does fertility acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture was not designed to hurt or induce any sensations of physical pain in patients. Most acupuncture patients tend to describe the process as being gentle, comfortable, and quite soothing, with no severe discomfort or painful sensations. Some report feeling warmth, heaviness, tenderness, soreness, or a throbbing sensation during or immediately after their sessions. However, this is temporary and typically goes away within a couple of hours or days.
When is the best time to do acupuncture for fertility?
For couples that are not considering assisted reproductive technology: We would recommend starting fertility acupuncture treatments after trying to conceive naturally for at least a year without success.
For couples considering assisted reproductive technology: Generally, it is recommended for most women to start fertility acupuncture sessions around 3 to 4 months before they begin donor-egg transfer, IVF (in vitro fertilization), or IUI (intrauterine insemination) treatments.
Before starting any treatments: Ensure that you have undergone an initial consultation, intake appointment, or spoken with your practitioner(s) to determine the safest and most effective options for you.
How many sessions of acupuncture do you need for fertility?
This depends on many individual aspects, such as but not limited to the individual’s lifestyle, medical history, whether they plan on undergoing other reproductive treatments, etc. Due to many different factors, the optimal number of sessions can vary greatly from individual to individual. It is best to schedule a consultation so we can come up with an individualized treatment plan that is suitable for your unique situation.
How long does it take for acupuncture to work for fertility?
Again, this can vary depending on the individual and their medical history. When it comes to acupuncture for fertility, the American Pregnancy Association recommends patients undergo frequent sessions, as consistency can also play a key role in achieving pregnancy.
